 Born in Hong Kong , Joanna was raised cooking traditional herbal fare, at her grandmother's side, using culinary techniques and recipes that had been handed down through the family for centuries.
Nearly all of her working life was spent as a Travel agent but after Sept 11, the travel industry went into decline and Joanna found herself at a crossroads in life. A new mom, with a new set of priorities, she was now looking for a challenge; something she could weave into her life, that would fit in with motherhood. As she'd always catered for families and friends and as cooking was always a source of pleasure for her, not a chore, it seemed a natural progression to start a business doing what she loved.
Not knowing where to start she enrolled in Toward Excellence's Design Your Future Program. Here she had an awakening. It was a major turning point in her life and a time when her dreams began to take shape.
After the Design Your Future program she wanted to be absolutely ready to start her own business so she waited for four months before applying to the SE Program. She was accepted.
She found the program wonderful and just what she was looking for. It gave her the practical tools and advice she needed, and as a result she became more confident and JoJo's Gourmet Inc. was born.
JoJo's nutritional style combines Eastern tradition with Western science. Joanna is a passionate advocate for her clients' health. The fusion philosophy at Jojo's emphasizes low fat, sweet greens, ginger, ginseng, as well as precious herbs that are known to benefit the blood, kidney, complexion, heart and lungs.
JoJo's first ever client was referred via her brother-in-law - Christmas platters for three of his corporate clients. Then came a wedding buffet for 200 and then cooking classes. Now, Joanna has just signed a contract with Trail Appliances in Richmond teaching cooking and already has several students already lined up. Her business is booming and her number of clients growing!
Despite her growing business she still finds time to give back to the community volunteering at Hasting Community Centre, teaching new/young parents how to cook for themselves and their toddlers with their hectic schedules as well as demonstrating more advanced cooking techniques to other chefs who share their cooking ideas, inventing new dishes and techniques.
