The Bra Tote, Manufacturer and Distributer
When traveling between Edmonton and Vancouver regularly Jane Webb always secretly dreaded packing. not because of the job - but because there was one item that caused a constant headache. the bras with the padded cups! Beautiful to wear, a pain in the neck to pack; these little garments first need to be folded with the cups neatly inside each other, then stuffed with socks to make sure they keep their shape. And finally there's the suitcase placement; they can't be packed near anything hard like shoes, purses or the case's edges because they are so easily crushed or bent and ruined. What a pain!
Jane's husband got tired of hearing her complain and asked if there was anything on the market designed for packing these bras for travel. So she took a look. She searched in lingerie stores, department stores, travel stores, the internet and found absolutely nothing! Every store clerk she spoke to said they didn't carry anything suitable but said, " what a great idea!"
That is how the idea for the Jane Bag began.out of necessity. When she started researching the bra market she realized that it was literally busting at the seams and the potential for her unique idea was enormous!
Jane had no manufacturing or formal business training so she enrolled in a self-employment program. Once the program started, so many doors began opening she could hardly keep up. It was then she realized that her dream would actually become a reality and what's more - she was learning the tools to make it happen.
Now seven months later, her business plan is complete; she's gathered her advisors and subcontractors and has hired a product development company to help her on her way. The industrial design is finished and the drawings are now with an Asian manufacturer. The second counter sample (prototype) has arrived and looks great! She is planning on a launch in time for Christmas 2004 and is well on her way to meeting this target.
If she isn't busy enough already with two young children, she has attracted media attention and is being filmed on her road to success by the acclaimed CBC Venture series!
Jane was 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year.
