Dorcas Douglas,
Dorcas3 Photography
Dorcas Douglas, the mind behind dorcas3 photography, is an emerging artist who produces clean, calming, thought-provoking images that portray her philosophy of a simpler more reflective lifestyle. Most of her work is shot in camera, scanned and then printed digitally using giclee (zhe-clay) inks on either canvas or acid free paper.
Dorcas has Crohn's disease and understands first hand the importance of reducing stress in your life to maintain optimum health. Not only does she use the photographic process as a way of reducing her own stress, but she also believes in the therapeutic properties her images have for others. dorcas3 Photography has been an evolution - a lesson to Dorcas to follow her own path and seek out things in her own life that she finds intriguing. When she first began taking photographs seriously she found she had a natural talent to focus in on a particular vision, capturing it on film. She then began experimenting in studios and found she was able to release her artistic self, working in a controlled environment.
Since then her art and photographic skills have been continually evolving. In 1999 Dorcas chose to study photography at Langara College concentrating on learning more advanced technical skills that allowed her to accurately produce her visions. She then took the big leap and opened her own business. She applied for and was accepted in Toward Excellence's Self-Employment Equity Program and finished her business plan in August 2004. Since then she has worked steadily promoting her business and selling her art; unique limited edition giclee prints, framed or unframed; as well as large giclee prints on stretched canvas. Dorcas is pleasantly surprised by the success of her business and her new status as one of Vancouver's emerging artists. She is now exploring having her images created on silk scarves - applying her vision to wearable art.
