Parvaneh Aflatoon,
Dena Accounting and Bookeeping
Attention to detail, a love of numbers, and a wonderfully warm personality helped Parvaneh Aflatoon make the jump from being a homemaker and mother in her native Iran to becoming an accounting entrepreneur who knows and understands small business economics. Her company, Dena Accounting and Bookkeeping, reflects this transition. Dena is a mountain in Iran and the company name helps remind her that every journey is made up of small steps.
Upon arrival in Canada, Parvaneh chose to learn Canada's accounting system by studying at Capilano College This course added to her already expansive knowledge and enabled her to use her Iranian accounting degree and continue her passion - numbers. She had no trouble finding a job and when, three years later, the company she was working with downsized she took the opportunity to realize a dream. becoming her own boss. She enrolled in an entrepreneurship course with Toward Excellence and rapidly learned the skills any entrepreneur needs to open and sustain a business.
When she graduated in April she found herself inundated with work. It was tax season. Since then she has worked solidly, concentrating on picking up new clients and developing her niche: bookkeeping, accounting, tax and personal income tax services to small business, fast food shops, fast food chains and import/export companies.
Despite her obvious success she still finds time to give back to the community, volunteering her time to help low income and seniors complete their tax returns (via North Shore multi-cultural society) and helping The Canadian Cancer Society in April where she co-ordinates fundraising.
Like the mountain her company is named after, Parvaneh knows success and business stability comes from hard work, attention to detail and making the leap.
